Bushbaby Travel: Inspiring travel for life

Northern Kenya, Kenya

Northern Kenya offers visitors the trip of a lifetime - combining unforgettable scenery, superb game-viewing, a fascinating insight into the culture and customs of the local Samburu tribes and genuinely warm hospitality at lodges that ooze safari chic.

Lewa has one of the highest wildlife densities in Kenya including 12% of the country’s black and white rhinos, and the world’s single largest population of Grevy’s zebra. The Conservancy is also home to herds of elephants and buffalo, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, more than 400 species of birds and if lucky, a pack of wild dogs!

The higher altitudes of the Mathews Range offers a pleasant contrast to arid desert; expect lush riverine valleys and mountainous forests, home to a carefully managed and therefore growing number of animals, especially elephants which have previously been victims of poaching and which migrate annually up and down the slopes. Lauded as a ‘biological bonanza’ by the BBC, it's also home to the melanistic leopard (also known as the black panther), Colobus monkey, greater kudu, waterbuck and giant forest hogs. Over 200 bird species have been recorded, together with more than 150 species of butterflies. Natural rock pools, crystal clear mountain streams and wild orchids are just some of the unique forest wildlife in the Mathews Mountain Range. It's not just about the wildlife though, this region offers true wilderness, exclusivity, and real cultural interaction with the local semi-nomadic tribes (including the famous ‘singing wells’). The wonderful Namunyak Conservancy in the Mathews is a far cry from the busy safari circuit.

By visiting, you will not only be signing up for a great African adventure, you'll also directly contribute towards wildlife conservation and successful community development in action.
