Kinondo Kwetu is the perfect complement to your Kenyan safari. Oozing barefoot luxury, this alluring family –owned hotel, enjoys a truly blessed location alongside a tranquil private beach surrounded by protected forests and basking in Indian Ocean sunshine. Small and intimate, this ‘home-from-home’ accommodates up to 43 guests in Swahili-style cottages and two main villas, surrounded by gardens and just steps from the white-sand beach. As appealing as a beach-side sun-lounger is, if you’re looking to keep active, there’s an impressive array of activities on offer - whilst water-based fun such as diving, kayaking and kite-surfing is the focus there’s also golf, game-drives to the nearby Shimba Hills, horse-riding, cultural trips and yoga on offer.

    There are 2 large, two-story villas and 5 cottages in the gardens, some with pool and/or garden views with the beach and sea lying just beyond.
    Some larger bedrooms in the main villas are fitted with air-conditioning while the cottages and other rooms have ceiling fans and benefit from the sea breeze. All feature four poster style beds with mosquito nets. The white-washed rooms are simply but stylishly decorated, featuring unglazed windows, en-suite bathrooms with showers or baths, plus private balcony or veranda lounging area.

    The largest house, Mama Taa Villa, has 8 suites - 4 upstairs and 4 downstairs, including the air-conditioned Andersson Honeymoon Suite and a Borelius Family Suite below.
    The second villa, Mama Tina, has an air-conditioned double en-suite room as well as interconnecting single rooms without a/c that share a bathroom.
    Three of the five cottages have one bedroom making them ideal for couples. A fourth has a double bedroom with adjoining single room that would be great for a small family. For those looking for more space, cottage 5 has 3 bedrooms arranged over two levels, making it the obvious choice for families and/or friends travelling together.

    With two swimming pools, a tennis court, sauna and exercise area on site there’s plenty to keep all ages entertained unless of course you prefer a beach-side massage, yoga session or beauty treatment!

    Kite-sufing aficionados are in for a treat as it’s a prime spot to take to the sea. The Marine Park holds huge appeal; whether you choose to snorkel or dive you’ll spot dolphins, turtles and whale sharks (in season). Water-skiing and wake-boarding, as well as sailing, canoeing, deep-sea fishing and boat excursions to ‘Paradise Lost’ island, can all be organised from the private beach. There’s an onsite stables – perfect for enjoying a forest or beach ride, and for a glimpse into local life, cultural visits to Kinondo Village can be arranged or perhaps you’d enjoy a shopping expeditions to Ukunda or Mombasa.

    If more wild-life spotting appeals, it’s just 45-minutes to Shimba Hills National Reserve although the Colobus monkeys and baobabs darting through the trees around the rooms offer plenty of entertaining antics!

    Guests stay on an all-inclusive basis with a daily set menu that can be tweaked on request, according to dietary requirements or tastes. Three course meals, making use of fresh, local and organic ingredients, often with a Swahili/coastal touch, are served outdoors. You can dine on the beach, by the pool, or in the gardens as you prefer – making the most of the beautiful setting. The main bar is located in Mama Tina Villa. Unbranded drinks and house wines are included as is afternoon tea and there’s a great selection of fine wines and branded spirits available at extra cost.

    As a family-hotel, Kinondo Kwetu is well tuned to the needs of parents. The flexible accommodation means there’s something to suit families of all sizes and ages. Parents looking to enjoy an evening meal for two, or perhaps a romantic beach stroll will appreciate the option of night guard or “Askari” – a carer who remains outside the room ready to alert parents if they are needed. Alternatively, the hotel is happy to arrange a nanny as and when needed.

    Cottages: One cottage has a double room connecting to a single room which is ideal for families of 3. The largest Cottage 5 is located close to the beach over 2 levels and comprises 3 bedrooms; a double/twin room connecting to a single room downstairs with a double room upstairs. Double rooms have en-suite bathrooms and all bedrooms are fitted with ceiling fans.

    Suites: Inside the main Mama Taa villa there are two air conditioned suites. Andersson upstairs is perfect for couples with one child and Borelius below has 2 bedrooms; with a double and a twin that has space to add a third bed. Again, these bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. Larger families of 6 can be accommodated in a family room with a double room in the same house (Mama Taa villa).

    Garden rooms: The Mama Tina villa ‘garden rooms’ are ideal for parents with teenagers. Parents have an air-conditioned double bedroom and then teenagers have two interconnecting single bedrooms with fans and a shared bathroom.

    *Baby cots, baths, bottle warmers & extra beds are available on request. A baby car seat is available for children up to 3 years.

    South of Mombasa, Kinondo Kwetu is located on a private white sand beach on a 16 acre garden plot to the south of Diani. It’s just 20 minutes from Ukunda/Diani airstrip and a 2 hour drive from Mombasa International airport, including time allowed for crossing the car ferry at Likoni.
