summer fun
Take a look at our top long-haul suggestions for summer.

Borneo
If you are looking for long-haul family adventure and some memorable wildlife encounters, our summer is a great time to visit Borneo (Malaysia) when it is at its driest. Be enthralled by the sight of orangutans in the wild and see turtles too if you visit Lankayan Island between June and September.
-
California
For the best weather our summer is the perfect time to visit California, especially if you are in search of a road-trip and some beach time. It is admittedly busy at the main attractions but even in the middle of summer it's possible to hop off the beaten path and have forests, fields and even beaches almost to yourself.
-
Canada
It might be vast, but the climate patterns throughout Canada are very similar and echo those in Europe. Whilst you risk frost-bite in deep winter, the Spring and Summer months are a fantastic time to visit. The scenery is at its most spectacular, wildlife emerges, flowers bloom and life is lived outside, with festivals and events galore, including (in no particular order) the Toronto Film Festival, the firework-fuelled Celebration of Light in British Colombia and by no means least, the renowned Calgary Stampede complete with cowboys, a rodeo, country music. Yee-haw!
-
Namibia
With virtually no rain or clouds, you can expect sunny days during Namibia's dry season from June-October. Wildlife viewing in all parks, but especially in Etosha, is best at this time of year and it's quiet too!
-
Northern Australia
Visit between May and October for the best weather; enjoy warm, sunny days and cool nights with average temperatures hovering around 32C (90F) during the day. The dragonflies are out, the sunsets glorious and there is a real buzz in towns such as Darwin and Alice Springs. With well-known sites and spectacular wilderness areas it really is an adventurer’s paradise.

Peru
Peak season is from June to August, which coincides with the cooler dry season in the Andean highlands. This is the best time to visit Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, although it can be busy so you need to book early. Combine with the Amazon, which is past its rainy season for a holiday that is full of exciting contrast.
