Children of all ages are welcome at Three Tree Hill. We think the lodge is great for families and love the 2-bedroom family cottages, outside children’s play area with jungle gym, trampoline, obstacle course and sand-pit as well as a fantasy house. All the usual fun things for kids are available too, from books to toys, puzzles, nightlights, dressing gowns, special soaps and shampoos, all suited for little ones.

Cots are provided free of charge, extra beds are available for an additional cost, and babysitting can be arranged with prior notice.

Three Tree Hill collaborated with tour guide, Elijah Mbonane, to build and support an Early Childhood Development Centre focusing on Environmental Sustainability & Tourism. The Centre is being built using recycled materials, local labour and university students from South Africa and abroad. An innovative Bio-gas Digestor system will channel waste to a system of air-tight bio-gas bags that will break down into gas that can be used to power the cooker and deep freeze that holds food for the children. So far, donations have enabled them to train one teacher in Early Childhood Development, but their aim is to train a further two teachers for the school. They also support a number of female-run small businesses based in local Hambrook Village, where all of their employees reside.

Three Tree Hill is situated near Bergville Town, surrounded by the Drakensberg Mountains in the province of Kwa Zulu Natal. Easily accessed by flying into Johannesburg or Durban Airport it’s then just a 4-hour drive from Johannesburg or 3 hours from Durban. The lodge is perfectly located for exploring the major Anglo-Boer War battlefields as well as the Drakensberg Mountains.
