There is an abundance to enjoy across the 650-hectare wine farm, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the very best of the Cape Winelands. The hotel’s beautiful landscaped gardens feature indigenous planting, tranquil waterways and walking trails, while the large outdoor swimming pool provides the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring.

The Spier Spa offers a range of holistic treatments inspired by natural African botanicals, with peaceful treatment rooms overlooking the gardens. Guests can also enjoy yoga sessions, leisurely cycling around the farm or simply wander the extensive grounds at their own pace.

Wine naturally takes centre stage, with a variety of guided wine tastings are available throughout the year. Food is a true highlight of any stay at Spier, with much of the produce sourced directly from the farm’s own gardens and nearby farms.

Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery serves relaxed, family-friendly meals centred around slow-smoked meats, freshly baked breads and seasonal ingredients, all enjoyed in a beautiful garden setting whilst The Garden Room offers an elegant breakfast each morning alongside refined lunches showcasing fresh, locally sourced produce and contemporary South African cuisine.

Veld Restaurant is Spier’s signature dinner restaurant, celebrating seasonal South African cuisine with ingredients grown on the farm and sourced from trusted local producers. Thoughtfully paired with Spier’s award-winning wines, it offers a refined farm-to-table dining experience in a warm, contemporary setting.

The farm’s renowned Spier Tasting Room is the perfect place to sample Spier’s award-winning wines through a variety of expertly guided tastings, including wine and chocolate pairings, whilst The Wine Shop allows guests to purchase their favourite bottles to enjoy at home or on a picnic beneath ancient oak trees, complete with gourmet hampers filled with artisanal cheeses, charcuterie, freshly baked breads and farm-grown produce.

Rooms

The hotel’s spacious guestrooms and suites are thoughtfully designed using natural materials, locally crafted furnishings and calming earthy tones that reflect the surrounding vineyards. Private terraces (only downstairs / garden rooms or suites) overlook indigenous gardens, waterways or the vineyards themselves, creating a peaceful sense of space throughout the property.

Luxury Rooms are beautifully appointed with dedicated king-size or twin beds, luxurious bathrooms and private balcony, offering an elegant and relaxing base from which to explore the farm. Luxury Garden Rooms provide a generous outdoor private terrace with seating area.

Luxury Suites are larger at 80m², and provide a generous Winelands retreat with separate bedroom, lounge, dining area and a farm-style kitchenette. Upper-level suites enjoy views of the Eerste River, fynbos gardens and Helderberg Mountains, while the ground-floor Luxury Garden Suites open onto a private terrace with tranquil river and garden surroundings. A private dressing room and luxurious bathroom with an oversized bath and walk-in shower complete the experience.

For those seeking the ultimate Winelands escape, Spier also offers two exceptional 3 bedroom private, fully-serviced villas yet giving you access to the hotel restaurants and facilities:

Garden Villa features a private, walled garden setting, with a full outdoor entertainment area – lounge, fireplace, dining table and built-in barbecue – alongside a heated pool. Two king rooms (one on each floor) plus a twin room upstairs, with the option of interleading doors between the upstairs bedrooms. Warm, earthy interiors echo the courtyard feel of the garden.

Riverside Villa nestles beside the Eerste River with a fire pit, outdoor dining table and a heated pool. Two king rooms (one on each floor) plus a twin room upstairs, which can also connect. Interiors in soothing shades of green take their cue from the river, farm and mountain views beyond.

Family

Spier is one of the most family-friendly luxury hotels in the Cape Winelands. The farm offers a dedicated children’s Club House, called the Buzz Club, open 08:00 – 17:00 daily, 365 days of the year, with nature-based activities, arts and crafts and outdoor games. Younger guests can explore the gardens and enjoy the wide-open spaces that make the farm so special.

Children are warmly welcomed throughout the restaurants, with dedicated children’s menus available, whilst family picnics are particularly popular.

Family Garden Rooms has been designed with families in mind, these interleading ground-floor garden rooms offer easy access to the re-wilded gardens. Spacious and comfortable, they provide sleeping arrangements with a king and a triple (bunk beds + single bed) for children under 16 years, heritage-style bathrooms and private terraces, creating a relaxed base for parents travelling with children.

The spacious Riverisde and Garden Villas which both have three bedrooms provide excellent accommodation for larger families.

Interconnecting rooms with a King and Twin are also available on request.

Sustainability lies at the heart of everything Spier does. The farm is internationally recognised for its regenerative farming practices, organic gardening, responsible water management and biodiversity conservation. Much of the produce served across the restaurants comes directly from the farm’s gardens, whilst indigenous planting supports local wildlife and pollinators.

Spier also has an outstanding commitment to community development, supporting local education, artisan workshops, employment initiatives and cultural programmes throughout the Stellenbosch region. Its extensive contemporary art programme showcases South African artists, with many works commissioned directly from local creatives. Every aspect of the farm reflects a long-term commitment to protecting the environment while enriching the local community.

Location

Spier is located just outside the historic town of Stellenbosch in South Africa’s beautiful Cape Winelands, approximately 30 minutes from Cape Town International Airport.

Its central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the renowned wineries of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl, while Cape Town, Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula are all easily reached on a day trip. Despite its convenient location, the wine farm enjoys a wonderfully peaceful setting surrounded by vineyards, mountains and centuries-old oak trees, providing an authentic Winelands retreat.
