One & Only Nyungwe House

For something special, One&Only Nyungwe House offers a truly sublime setting, perched at the edge of Nyungwe National Park, surrounded by rainforest and tea plantations. The property is perfectly positioned to make the most of its breath-taking surroundings. Huge windows bring the outside in, while dark stone floors and walls adorned with local art in the communal areas are complemented by bamboo flooring, four-poster beds and deep baths in the bedrooms.

There’s plenty on site to keep you entertained when not exploring the forest, including a sumptuous spa, outdoor pool and yoga deck. An outdoor fire pit provides the ideal place to gather around when night falls and local children are often invited to perform traditional songs and dances in the evenings.

Facilities & Activities

The main lure of Nyungwe National Park must be the charismatic chimpanzees. The Resort offers a discovery trek in the company of experienced guides who will lead you through protected jungle, the natural home of one of East Africa’s rare chimpanzee populations and troops of colobus monkeys.

After your trek, the Spa is the perfect place to relax and refresh with personalised treatments designed by eco-friendly skincare brand Africology. Or perhaps join the daily Tea Ceremony where you’ll have the chance to sample Nyungwe tea. Introduced in 1952, this rich, full-bodied black tea is now one of the country’s largest exports. If you’d like to learn more, you can accompany a guide through the lush Gisakura Tea Estate which borders the resort.

Dining

The kitchen ethos is a sustainable farm-to-table concept, with a tailored approach that ensures guest needs and preferences are all catered for. High Tea is a highlight of the day at Nungwe; discover local teas, sweet pastries and casual snacks as you look out over the working tea plantation. Fancy something stronger?  Masterfully mixed cocktails can be enjoyed with rainforest vistas from the open-air deck.

Sleeping two, with your choice of a king-sized bed or two twin beds, they are nestled within lush treetops, with a comfortable lounge area opening out to a large, private balcony enabling you to make the most of the setting and watch out for the jungle’s most mischievous residents; curious colobus monkeys.
