The camp also has an extensive wellness offering, including yoga classes and an open-air spa. It’s ideal for families looking to balance exploring and relaxing.

Facilities & Activities

Your personal Nayara naturalist guide is on hand to help you plan the perfect activities tailored for you and your family during your stay, be it guided nature walks, zip-lining through the rainforest or a visit to a coffee plantation.

Being set in the jungle, the local area is packed with wildlife – even on a walk around the property, you might see hummingbirds, parrots, hawk eagles and sloths (including Tony, the resident three-toed sloth). Guided night walks offer a glimpse into Costa Rica’s nocturnal wildlife, with opportunities to spot everything from noisy tree frogs to solitary anteaters. The grounds are teeming with tropical plants and exotic flowers, including orchids and plantain trees.

Thrill-seekers are in the right place, as Arenal is known as Costa Rica’s adventure capital. Nayara can help organise activities including zip-lining, rappelling down waterfalls, white-water rafting on the Sarapiqui River and hiking the Arenal Volcano. For a touch of culture, they can organise trips to local coffee plantations, indigenous villages and a wildlife refuge.

The open-air spa is just the place to unwind to the soundtrack of nature. Treatments use locally grown ingredients – think coffee and chocolate body scrubs and volcanic mud massages. You could also indulge in sound therapy, Thai stretching or daily yoga classes. Twice a year Nayara Resorts offer bespoke wellness retreats and, new for 2024, a minimum 3-night Wellness Escape package with a focus on health, relaxation and rejuvenation. For fine dining, the adults-only Ayla restaurant serves traditional cocktails and food with a Middle Eastern slant. It’s set inside an elegant tent with fabulous views of the pool, rainforest and volcano beyond. Asia Luna is an intimate and stylish spot with sleek, wood tables, jungle views and low-lit lamps overhead. Here chefs use local ingredients to produce Asian fare – a highlight is sushi rolls made with sweet plantains and grilled yellowfin tuna.

The swim-up bar is ideal for daytime lounging, while the sophisticated wine bar offers tastings. For coffee lovers, Mi Cafecito has coffee roasting experiences.

Expect pared-back luxury at every turn in your safari-style ‘tent’, which places an emphasis on a connection to the outdoors and minimalist style. Inspired by lodges in Africa, the spacious rooms are shrouded in canvas and feature opulent trimmings – a four-poster king bed, a freestanding bath and an outdoor shower. The terrace is the real showstopper, complete with a plunge pool fed by natural mineral hot springs, hammocks, day beds and mesmerising views.

Elevated on stilts and surrounded by lush greenery, the 21 tents are connected by short wooden bridges to the pathway linking the entire property. Standard tents are ideal for couples, but larger groups and families can book Private Residences (sleeping up to 12 guests) or a Family Tent (sleeping up to six guests). In-room amenities for all tents include air conditioning, twice-daily maid service, fresh fruit, wi-fi and environmentally-friendly toiletries.

Family Tents are perfect for families, sleeping up to six guests. They comprise two connecting tents – a main tent with a four-poster king bed and a second tent with two queen beds and its own bathroom. One cot is available for children aged up to two.

For even more space, the Casas (Private Residences) can sleep up to 12 people. They consist of two Family Tents that are connected to a villa with a kitchen, living room and dining area. Two cots are available for children aged up to two. Each Casa has a king-size bed joined with another tent with two queen-size beds. The outdoor space is a cut above, too – it features an oversized plunge pool fed by natural hot springs and a fire pit. Guests staying at the two Casas can also make use of a dedicated personal concierge service.

There’s a children’s menu in La Terraza restaurant, with options that include tomato pasta and chicken fingers. Older children are bound to love the range of activities on offer, particularly adrenaline-fuelled rafting and rappelling, while younger children will enjoy spotting the wildlife right on their doorstep.

There is a even a Kid Spa Service, tailored for younger guests with fun and soothing treatments such as gentle massages, chocolate scrubs, and mini-facials, all with child-safe products, ensuring the entire family can enjoy the essence of relaxation and well-being together.

Nayara is committed to the nature that surrounds it. Conservation initiatives include efforts towards becoming a plastic-free resort and using environmentally-friendly toiletries and spa products. Accommodation is sustainable and renewable – the orientation of the tents minimises the need for air-con and heating, and the tents use energy-conserving lighting and water-conserving faucets. There is also an emphasis on supporting local communities, through both employing local staff and supporting local orphanages and charities.

The resort has a mission to preserve and grow its own tropical rainforest by planting and replanting native trees, to help protect the natural refuge for wildlife including birds, monkeys and sloths.

Positioned up high on a prime piece of land in Arenal Volcano National Park, Nayara Tented Camp is surrounded by rainforest and boasts distant views of the volcano itself, as well as lush greenery as far as the eye can see. It’s under two hours to reach the resort from Juan Santamaría Airport, with scenic mountain views along the way.

A ten-minute drive from Nayara, the town of La Fortuna has a lively shopping street lined with bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. As well as Arenal volcano, Lake Arenal is also within striking distance, a hub for activities such as paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing.
