Morukuru Family Collection
These three exclusive use houses make up the luxury portfolio of Morukuru Family in malaria-free Madikwe, where they nestle in a private concession on the edge of this game-rich reserve.
With no other guests to consider, here families can operate at their own time schedule, and with the expert guidance of a ranger and tracker, enjoy a laid-back, personalised game experience. Child-friendly activities such as baking and fishing will keep the little ones entertained, and babysitters allow adults some much needed time-out (children of all ages welcome).

Facilities & Activities
Step into your own open 4×4 vehicle with an expert guide and tracker, and watch the reserve awaken. From the first light, you may spot elephants meandering through the savannah, lions lounging in the long grass, or leopards stealthily navigating the thickets. Each drive is tailored to your interests: whether photographing the Big Five, following birdlife, or spotting playful warthogs, every journey feels intimate and personal. Sunset drives offer magical skies and golden light, culminating in a classic bush sundowner.
River fishing in the Marico River (catch and release basis) adds an unusual aspect to a safari for those keen and bush walks with your fully armed ranger and tracker offer the opportunity to learn, smell and see (about) the bushveld and its inhabitants in a close & personal way (age restrictions apply, no children allowed under 16 years and for those 60 years and over a doctor’s certificate of good health is necessary).
The in-house spa experiences bring the luxury of a boutique retreat to the heart of the bush. Skilled therapists can deliver tailored massages, facials, and body treatments either in the privacy of your villa or in a tranquil spa room overlooking the wilderness.
In addition to your exclusive and tailor-made safari experience, you might feel adventurous and try out the romantic sleep-out experience in the bush under the stars, which might just be the cherry on top of your African safari, offering amazing stargazing opportunities.

Dining
Every meal at Morukuru Family feels like a special occasion, with many different and surprising venues for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On moonlit nights, you may find your table set up around a crackling bonfire in the boma surrounded by flickering candles under a starlit Madikwe sky. The experienced chefs cook traditionally African on an open fire where your meal is enjoyed by the sounds of the surrounding wildlife.
Naturally you enjoy 100% access to your kitchen – it’s your home after all – but cooking is certainly not on the cards, unless you’re a committed foodie, or would like a personal cooking demonstration. Your personal Chef will converse with you before each meal in order to prepare to your taste and interest and served how, where and when you want. No dietary requirement is too onerous.
The house wine selection is excellent but winelovers will find heaven in the Morukuru Family cellars: stocked with some of South Africa’s finest wines, many of the bottles here are collector’s items purchased at the celebrated Nederburg Auction or at the Cape Winemakers Guild, and simply unavailable to purchase anywhere else but here.
Rooms
All properties incorporate European styling with handpicked African pieces, wonderful indoor and outdoor flow, plenty of al fresco dining and unwinding opportunities, and the ultimate of holiday luxuries with a personal staff including your own chef, butler, hostess, babysitter (if required), housekeeper and a private safari guide and tracker for you to personalize your itinerary completely.

Morukuru River House – Situated on the banks of the peaceful Marico River, not far from the Owner’s House, the house has 3 bedrooms en-suite plus a study that can be converted into a children’s bedroom (no bathroom) accommodating up to 6 adults and 4 children under 16 years. The bedrooms are adorned with plush king-sized beds, sumptuous bathrooms, with indoor and outdoor showers and tubs with bush views, fireplaces for chilly nights (gas fires) and private balconies. A large living room and dining area, as well as a veranda and private swimming pool complete the experience. Recreational facilities such as satellite TV, Playstation, computer with internet and DVDs are also included.
Morukuru Farm House – Located on the other side of the mountain, the five-suite Farm House is a contemporary African oasis, surrounded by luscious green lawns, and set within a 100-hectare fenced-in safe area which is home to general game, so kids can play and roam at will, and guests may have the freedom to walk and explore. There is a 15-metre swimming pool, dining and living rooms, a bar and a viewing deck & spa area, as well as an outdoor bath for families & groups to enjoy. The five huge en-suite bedrooms all come with a private deck area with great bush views and an outdoor shower and are linked to the main area by a covered walkway. They are all equally luxurious, so that your family holiday will be special for every family member. A safari-chic take on the traditional African farm homestead offers the perfect private setting for larger families and friends travelling together, where all ages can completely relax in an unpretentious yet stylish way.

Family
Morukuru doesn’t offer a set ‘children’s programmes’ as they believe that children should be given the same individual care and attention as the adult guests, with each child’s food requirements, bedding preferences, interests, age and life experiences considered!
Children receive their very own ‘Morukuru Kidz’ backpack filled with some fun and useful goodies. At the three exclusive-use houses in the Madikwe Game Reserve kids can enjoy a host of child-specific activities, from tracking lessons to baking biscuits, from bush walks to board games. And for those kids who simply can’t live without technology, those properties also offer access to free Wi-Fi, computer stations, DVDs and PlayStation.
Activities at these exclusive-use houses are very much tailor made according to the preferences and abilities of your children.
Sustainability
All three Morukuru properties in Madikwe operate sustainably off-grid using solar power. Morukuru is also involved in various Wildlife and Community projects: removing alien vegetation from Madikwe Game reserve, assisting the Molatedi school library with book donations as well as soccer kits for the up-and-coming soccer stars, recycling initiatives, and assistance with Parks Board projects like darting, collaring and relocation activities. Our guests can become a part of this as well, by voluntarily donating goods or funds towards any of the projects. It is also possible for guests to be involved in some of the nature conservation projects, please enquire when booking.
Location
The three Morukuru properties are set in the Madikwe Game Reserve – the fifth largest game reserve in South Africa with 75,000 hectares of pristine, malaria-free bushveld located in the Northwest Province, just a 4-5-hour drive from Johannesburg or a 1-hour flight.
