Facilities & Activities

Given its central position the hotel makes the ideal base in which to see and do things around the city, for example the ancient Church and Domes of Santa Domingo where you can climb to the top of the bell tower to see over the entire city and visit local markets or the chocolate museum.

On the terrace guests are welcomed to take part in mixology courses where they can have a go at making some locally inspired cocktails or mocktails, all with a view of the city of Quito.

Situated in the centre of the hotel under a flood of natural light from the glass roof is the hotel’s restaurant ‘La Plaza’, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menus are based on the 24 geographical provinces of the country, using locally source ingredients to provide guests with a gourmet interpretation of homemade Ecuadorian dishes.

The rooftop terrace is arguably the hotels crowing feature, being located at the top of La Loma Grande it offers spectacular views whether of the vast mountain ranges at night or the sparkles of stars and city lights at night. The terrace has a bar offering an exciting assortment of cocktails, there is also a menu for light dishes and snacks during the day, and dining with heaters can also be arranged at night.


The hotel has a variety of different room types, with entry level Deluxe Rooms offering 32 square metres of space, each coming with a queen bed and is suitable for up to 2 guests, a modern bathroom stocked with an organic line of Ecuadorian bathroom amenities and a 40″ TV.   For those seeking greater space, Superior Rooms at a slightly larger 36 metres square are ideal, with sliding French doors and East-facing windows to let in more light.

The Premium Room type is 38 metres square and is available with either a king or twin beds, this can sleep up to 2 people. For those looking for further space, consider a Luxury Room, with a very spacious 43 metres square of living space, these rooms of the added benefit of a private balcony, providing an outdoor space from which to enjoy the dramatic surroundings.

Mama Cuchara is very accommodating towards families, with children of all ages welcome, with the larger room types able to accommodate up to 4 people making them suitable for young families, whilst teens will enjoy the Mixology courses!


The hotel maintains a good relationship with local suppliers and artisans and uses as much locally sourced product as possible.


The hotel is located in the historic centre of Quito, Ecuador’s mountainous capital, known to be the least altered and best-preserved city in the entirety of Latin America, the hotel is well positioned to see many of the city’s sites, being in walking distance of sights such as La Ronda and Plaza Santa Domingo.
