Northern Thailand
Lanjia Lodge, Chiang Rai

Lanjia means ‘peaceful’ in the Hmong language and this lovely lodge certainly offers peace in abundance as well as a unique opportunity to live with the local hill-tribe people high above the dramatic scenery of the Mekong Valley.

The lodge has been built in harmony with the lush green setting and the Hmong and Lahu Villages in which it is found. Developed and managed by the local people, it offers a wonderfully authentic and genuine encounter far from the tourist trail.

Facilities & Activities

As your hosts,  the local villagers will share their customs with you; learn about the Lahu Tribe who live high in the hills above or the Hmong who live in the valleys below. There are a variety of tour packages to choose from, combining a hill tribe experience with cultural adventure tours. A typical 2-3 day stay usually includes trekking, boat rides on the mighty Mekong River and perhaps a visit to the Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar converge. Whatever you choose, you’ll enjoy a delightful taste of local rural life and breath-taking views.

In true Thai style, children are very welcome here, however, due to the remote location and basic facilities it is best suited to those aged 5 and above. Each room can be configured as a twin or double (king-sized bed) and an additional bed can be added on request.

The lodge is located in local communities mostly made up of ethic hill tribe minorities. These communities have been involved with the development and operations from the beginning.

The buildings at the lodge have incorporated many design and architectural features that reflect the rich traditions of the hill tribe communities. They are built with environmental concerns; the structures are made from natural materials and require minimum use of energy. There is no air conditioning at their lodges, each house is built on stilts with high roof, allowing air to flow freely throughout the day. Almost 100% of the food is supplied by local people in the area where the lodge is situated, Tour activities are operated by local community members. Team members are the local community members, and they make every effort to purchase any resources needed for operations from family and community members.

The lodge is found in Kiew Karn village, about an 90 minutes drive from Chiang Rai and only 30 minutes from the Thai/Laos border. Transfers will be organised directly by the lodge.
