Puerto Maldonado & the Peruvian Amazon
Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica

If you like your creature comforts but also crave an Amazon adventure this is the place for you.

This remote but accessible lodge combines exhilarating experiences (wilderness hikes and canoe trips) with great service and accommodation. The charming cabanas offer a comfortable base, with spacious bedrooms and a screened lounge area with hammocks. For the ultimate jungle experience, spend 1 night in the Canopy Tree House, 27m above the forest floor. Watch the sun go down with a Pisco Sour and dine beneath the stars before taking a stroll along the Canopy Walkway.

Facilities & Activities

Guests stay on a fully-inclusive basis, which includes transfers to/ from the lodge, all meals, specified excursions and non-alcoholic drinks.

The hub of the lodge is the central pavilion, which houses the restaurant, bar and lounge areas.  There is also an Eco-activity centre, with plentiful books and resources so you can read up on your surroundings. This is where you meet for your excursions.  Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica offers more than a dozen excursions. You will be assigned a family Explorer Guide who will greet you upon arrival, suggesting an itinerary based on individual interests, desired activity levels, weather conditions and length of stay. Among the many possibilities are challenging jungle treks, accessible rain forest trails, a thrilling treetop canopy walk and bird-watching.

A typical 3 day/ 2 night itinerary would include all meals as well as a welcome meeting and cool drink at Puerto Maldonado, transfer to the boarding wharf, 45 minute boat trip to the lodge, the Trail System Adventure and Twilight River Excursion or the nature presentation at the Eco-centre on Day 1, an excursion to Lake Sandoval, the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway and Anaconda Walk on Day 2 and return transfers with stop-off at Inkaterra Butterfly House on your final day.

One of the most popular activities with families is the Jungle Canopy Adventure – a must for your trip to the jungle. The tree canopy bridge, one of South America’s largest, makes it possible to literally walk through the treetops for more than ¼ mile, suspended 103 feet above the ground, near Tambopata. Millions of species, many still undiscovered, spend their entire lives in this realm. Meticulously engineered, it is considered one of the safest canopy walkways in the world.

After an early start and a day spent trekking through the jungle, we recommend a visit to the ENA spa, combining classic nurturing with the exotic ingredients of the Amazon. All the spa products are 100% natural, derived from natural botanical extracts. Located on the banks of the Madre de Dios River, facing Rolin Island, the serene location allows you to enjoy stunning Amazonian sunsets, adding to this relaxing experience. Choose from a range of treatments, including reflexology, foot therapy, hot and cold stone massage and the ultimate treat – the Amazon Purification Treatment for the ultimate detox.
