Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch

A 27-acre oasis found within the Sonoran Desert, the hottest in North America. This beautiful resort hotel is a haven amidst flowering cactus, surrounded on all sides by the majestic red hued McDowell Mountains.

Following a recent renovation, the large open courtyards, lush palm trees, cacti, fountains and pools set a scene worthy of a mirage. This, coupled with luxury rooms, invigorating activities, and a strong emphasis on maintaining and respecting the land and its people, make the hotel a luxurious lifestyle choice.

Facilities & Activities

After you’ve sampled your complimentary margarita at check in, the next difficult task will be what to do next. Start with the 10-pool water landscape, splashing into the warm waters via the huge three-tier waterslide. This sparkling vista comes complete with fountains, waterfalls and the option of a private cabana, with its own lounge, television and fridge. Order a selection of light bites from the poolside café and you need not move for the day.

Or if you’d rather stay dry, take one of the gondola rides along the Venetian style waterways. Professionally steered by classically trained singers, you’ll be serenaded as you slip quietly around the 7-acre lake.

With a Championship 27 hole golf course, delicious spa treatments, shopping at the hiking lifestyle store, or hurling yourself around the professional tennis courts, there are endless choices for ‘on location’ entertainment. You can even immerse yourself in Native American Culture at the Culture Centre. Aimed at preserving heritage and recognising its importance, there are talks with members of the indigenous population; lessons on weaving and jewellery making and Native American Dancers perform every Friday, providing a real taster and insight into this ancient culture.

However, if adventuring in raw nature is more your thing, then there are daily shuttle services to Camelback Mountain for spectacular hiking at a variety of levels and ask the concierge for great biking and running trails. Or book an experience with Green Zebra Adventure Centre, based at the Hyatt. The centre offers exciting adventures on horseback, biking, kayaking, hummer and hot air balloon rides.

The Hyatt is renowned for its industry leading philosophy when it comes to food. Its emphasis is firmly on serving delicious, fresh, seasonal, nutritious food that is good not just for people, but also the planet and its communities. As a result, there are a variety of delectable options for dining.

Choose from Alto Ristorante E Bar, one of the top Italian restaurants serving healthy, seasonal fare along with being a ‘must visit’ for wine lovers due to its excellent and unique wine choice. Arrive by gondola (free with dinner) and embrace the European vibe. Alternatively leave your evening in the hands of the experts with their ‘wine me, dine me’ custom prepared 4 course gastro delight. Take it easy at SWB with its wood fired treats or sample the famous brunch that is local folk’s worst kept secret. And if you can’t decide? Then choose Cantina Due – nestled between the 2 main restaurants, you can select from either menu whilst cradling a handcrafted cocktail.

There is a huge choice when it comes to classic rooms at the Hyatt. Spacious and recently remodeled, and with their own private balconies or patios, they have relaxing desert hues and feature all modern amenities such as a 37 inch LCD television, WIFI, dual phones and refrigerators. The Hyatt Regency is definitely all about the family. Offering pre-prepared family resort packages, these fun and educational programs are individually tailor made.

The 2.5 acre, 10-pool water park will be the biggest draw with its sandy bottomed ‘walk-in’ main pool and kids will love the huge waterslide and waterfalls. Please note that although manned by lifeguards, children must be a minimum of 42 inches tall / able to swim without assistance to use the waterslide.

If you can ever coax them out of the pool, then take them to watch birds of prey demonstrations at Fountain Court. Locally based Arizona Liberty Wildlife brings rescued eagles, hawks and falcons for the children to see. Teach them about local flora and fauna with a “Hiking with Hank Tour’ or book them into the Junior Tees Programme – ideal for young kids and teens learning to play golf.

Water volleyball, tennis lessons and desert biking adventures keep teens happily occupied or tire them out at the Playground. Enjoy some of that elusive family time chatting round the campfire or watch a poolside film under the stars (parents disappearing off for a romantic meal together, optional).

Or for more formal childcare, there is Camp Hyatt. Offering morning or afternoon sessions (evening sessions at the weekend) for ages 3 – 12 years and partnered with National Geographic Kids, the camp aims to teach kids about local plants, animals and culture. Activities include desert scavenger hunts, tours of the cactus garden, Mexican bark painting or listening to a real live American cowboy tell them stories of the west at its wildest.

And when they need to refuel then the special kids menu at every restaurant and café will do the trick. Tip top and full of fresh and nutritious options that have been taste tested and approved by kids for kids.

For families with tiny ones, the standard and premium guestrooms are easily large enough to take an extra cot and take advantage of the sister company “Babies Travel Light”, which for a fee will provide car seats, changing tables, buggies, nappies and baby food – all delivered to your room before you arrive.  Rooms with 2 x Queen beds can also be booked or consider a Palm or Fountain Court Suite with a handy ‘wall bed’ with the 1 or 2 bed options.
