Before transforming into an award-winning hotel, Colony Club Barbados began life as a private home and stables in 1930.

Located in a prime position on the upmarket west coast, it offers free water sports and safe swimming from the picturesque beach in front of the hotel.

As well as the meandering pools, there are water sports on tap. Choose from snorkelling, paddle boarding, kayaking, water-skiing and banana boat rides. The spa and wellness centre offers treatments such as massages and there is also a gym and 2 floodlit tennis courts. Other hotel facilities include a small library, laundry services and a gift shop.

There’s a good variety of dishes on offer in the large, open-air Laguna Restaurant. A breakfast buffet includes cooked-to-order eggs, pancakes and a selection of local bread and pastries. At dinner, tuck into fresh fish or lamb, with many ingredients taken from the hotel’s organic garden.  The Deck Restaurant offers outdoor dining serving international cuisine for lunch and in the evening.  For a sundowner or a casual meal, head to one of the two relaxed bars – one is set right beside the pool.

If you book on a dine-around programme, you can also eat at selected sister properties but supplements may apply.


The 96 rooms are chic and relaxing, with whitewashed walls, many with four-poster beds and all boasting private terraces or balconies. You’ll get a coffee maker, robes and even a yoga mat as standard and there’s a turndown service in the evenings.

For added luxury,  upgrade from a Pool or Garden View Room and opt for a Swim-Up Room – their terraces lead directly into one of the pools.  Or if your dream is to wake up and see the sea, Ocean View Rooms await.

Junior Suites with a variety of views and locations offer additional open place space, whilst 1-Bedroom Ocean View Suites have a separate living area.

There is a seasonal kids’ corner for children aged 3-12 years, with family-oriented activities, such as trips to the Barbados Wildlife Reserve and fun movie nights. Babysitting can be booked for an additional charge and children’s menus are available.

Family rooms, cribs and rollaway beds are available on request. Some rooms are adults-only, but many will accommodate children.  One child can share a standard room whilst the suites are the best options for families seeking extra space – Junior Suites have a a pull out sofa bed in the sitting room sleeping up to 2 younger guests, or the ultimate room type for a young family has to be a the 1-Bedroom Ocean View Suites, sleeping a family of 4 comfortably, with separate living rooms and vast terraces.

The property has a stellar location in Saint James, on the west coast of Barbados. Nicknamed the “Platinum Coast”, it’s known for its golden sand and clear warm waters. The hotel offers a free water taxi service between the Colony Club and other Elegant Hotel properties on the west coast.  With its old colonial buildings and buzzing culture, Bridgetown is just 7 miles from the property. Grantley Adams International Airport is 17 miles away, a journey of around 40 minutes
