Zanzibar Island & Coast

Channel your own Arabian Princess at this stunning resort, a captivating mix of Arabic, Indian and Swahili heritage, beautifully hand crafted by local artisans and lovingly cared for by the family who have owned it for generations.

It’s the perfect combination of Arabian Nights magic, the warmest of welcomes and a picture-perfect setting.

Facilities & Activities

Set on one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, Baraza also offers an array of facilities to keep every member of the family happy. From the lovely frangipani-lined swimming pool, to the luxurious spa, to the well organised Kids Club, to the well-stocked library, to the exclusive Dive School and Water Sports Centre, all the tick boxes on any holiday list are met. This is topped with some wonderful (and educational) excursions, meticulously planned by the ‘Tours and Excursions’ Desk. These include Swahili School – learn to cook, speak Swahili or learn to palm weave and take home some hand-crafted gifts, or visit the local village and spend a ‘day in the life’ here while supporting the community. Or how about learning to climb a palm tree, rescue turtles, or simply drift along the coast in a Dhow and learn some traditional hand-line fishing?

Despite the glossy honeymoon style setting, families are very welcome here and there is plenty for them to do on and off the water. The Baraza Kids Club is a great set-up  for children aged 4 – 12 years (included in the cost).

Meal times can be tailored to suit you and babysitting is also available for those evenings spent under the stars.

The Zanzibar Collection believes in only employing local people wherever possible. They invest heavily in their skills training and family welfare. Most of the managers have worked their way up to their current position, where they have been supported by means of a rigorous programme of training.

They have installed a state-of-the-art sewage-treatment plant that transforms our wastewater into irrigation water. They plant only indigenous species, all of which are selected for their ability to absorb humidity during the day and release it into the roots at night. In this way they have achieved a 50% cut in water consumption. The hotels also adhere to a stringent policy of laundry/bathroom water-use minimization.

They are also committed to the eradication of single-use-plastic and use recyclable paper products wherever feasible.

Their staff includes a dedicated marine biologist who watches over the well-being of our delicate tidal ecosystem while offering educational workshops for the staff. They also promote reef safaris, environmentally caring dive programmes and water sports.

The resort is found on the South East of Zanzibar Island, about an hour from the Airport. It is near the lovely Bwejuu Village which has links to the hotel and any guests are warmly welcomed.
