Anantara Hoian Resort

This lovely French-colonial masterpiece is in an enviable position on the banks of the Thu Bon River and within walking distance of the historic UNESCO Hoi An.

Soft pastel colours, peaceful verandas and scented tropical gardens provide the perfect base to explore this wonderful lantern-filled town or the perfect escape from the hubbub at the end of the day. Enjoy a cocktail by the water, cocooned by fairy-lit trees and lanterns, and watch the ebb and flow of river life go by.

The setting by the river is idyllic and you can easily while away hours in the lovely lantern filled gardens. The swimming pool is set amongst lily ponds and surrounded by frangipani trees, perfect for a refreshing dip. There are plenty of daily activities on offer: from yoga to Vietnamese cooking or lantern making lessons or enjoy a leisurely cycle on one of the complimentary bicycles – a wonderful way to see the area. The concierge can organise trips around the local sights or recommend a tailor for a bespoke designer outfit at a fraction of the cost. It’s an excellent choice for a family and all ages are welcome. All rooms can interconnect and can be booked in advance or requested upon arrival. Each will sleep a family of 4, while one extra bed can be added for a small additional cost. There are daily kid-friendly activities and babysitting on request – great for hopping on the sunset cruise in peace.

The Anantara team contributes to a number of social and environmental projects in each country where they operate. They actively support their communities through grassroots involvement as well as matching dollar-for-dollar guest donations to organisations providing vital services, such as children’s surgeries and wildlife protection. Where possible they employ local people and source products and services locally. Sustainable tourism also is at the forefront of their agenda; minimising water and energy consumption and reducing and recycling waste within the hotels.

The resort is found in arguably one of the best spots in Hoian; set serenely on the banks of the picturesque river but just a short meander from the ancient streets of this magical town. It is also the best choice for a stay when the weather here isn’t ‘beach ready’ but only a 20-minute cycle or 10-minute journey by car when it is (January to August). Busy Danang Airport is just 45 mins away, so it’s an easy add-on to any itinerary.
