Northern Thailand
Anantara Chiang Mai Resort

Built on the grounds of the historic British Consulate, this contemporary-meets-colonial hotel has a city look but relaxed resort feel. Perched on the bank of the Mae Ping River, it provides a peaceful oasis but with all the delights of Chiang Mai and its famous night market right on the doorstep.

For families who are happy to be a little more self-sufficient, there is also the option of the serviced suites found just across the road.

Facilities & Activities

While it’s the perfect base for exploring the unique culture outside the walls, there is plenty to do at the resort. The huge riverside pool overlooks the river and is dotted with sun loungers, truly restful at the end of a busy day. Or for the energetic, start the day with yoga, Thai Chi or kickboxing on the lawn. There is a great city tour by tuk-tuk available; enjoy the highlights of the city with informative and friendly local guides. There are also free guest bikes, another great way for the kids to explore the grounds or the local area. The concierge will also help with organising shopping trips, cooking classes, river cruises or hiking, elephant trekking and white-water rafting found further afield.

Dining

The in-house restaurant starts the day with a huge breakfast buffet and continues with authentic Indian and Peruvian dishes for lunch and dinner. Or hark back to romantic colonial days at The Service 1921, set in the original British Consulate building, and pretend you are on a secret service mission while you choose from an eclectic menu of Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese specialities. The Hotel Bar is perfect for lazy afternoon teas or a light aperitif followed by dinner on board the hotel’s private boat; enjoy the traditional houses and beautiful scenery as you meander down the river at sunset.

Rooms

Choose from River or Garden View rooms, each with huge floor to ceiling windows to maximise the view, plus a private balcony and double day bed. Or enjoy the more spacious Kasara Suites that also enjoy access to a dedicated lounge where breakfast, light snacks and cocktails are available all day. The rooms are set over four floors so go high for the best views!

Family

There are no interconnecting rooms available here, but the Kasara Suites provide enough space for a family of four and an additional bed can be added for a small fee. The serviced two and three-bedroom suites across the road also provide good accommodation for families who are happy to self-cater (although there is a dine-in option available). Babysitting and children’s menus are also available.

Sustainability

Behind the scenes and at the forefront, Anantara works tirelessly to preserve the amazing destinations that we call home.

Hand in hand with guests, the team contributes to a number of social and environmental projects in each country where they operate. They actively support communities through grassroots involvement as well as matching dollar-for-dollar guest donations to organisations providing vital services, such as children’s surgeries and wildlife protection.

Location

Within easy striking distance of the Airport, it is also a lovely 20-minute walk from the ancient temples, Lanna ruins and bustling markets for which this city is famous. However, once inside the serene walls you’d be forgiven for thinking you were tucked away miles from busy city life.
